This extra thin printed circuit means the thickness of printed circuit board is more thin than normal PCB. Normal thickness of PCB is from 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm, and the Min thickness is 0.3 mm or 0.4 mm (1L or 2L). For 4L PCB, thickness will be more about 0.6mm. This type of board always named as thin PCB, or thin board. But sometimes, limited to space or margin, or needed by design purpose, people need much thinner thickness such as 0.25 mm, 0.20 mm, or even 0.15 mm, so that the PCB can be used in such as SIM card, sensor card, and so on. Because of extreme thickness, extra thin PCB, or very thin PCB name came out. With the market demand pushing for thinner devices, people are trying to make the design more portable, lighter, and more flexible, so the application for the extra thin PCB are used more and more widely. Extra thin FR4 PCB can be manufactured as thin as a flexible PCB, bendable similar like a flexible circuit, but more rigid, and cost will be lower, comparing with the same copper traces on each board. Different with the flexible PCB, extra thin PCB refers to a PCB substrate made by FR4 materials. But if you need board thickness less than 0.10 mm, then you should use flexible circuit which can be 0.06 mm for 1L FPC or 0.10 mm for 2L FPC. |
